IHS World Hydrography Day Event

The 21st of June marks the celebration of World Hydrography Day.

On the same day of the celebration, the Italian Hydrography Society (IHS) is organising a very important event in Acireale (Sicily), Italy, following the theme issued by IHO. Distinguished guests will be addressing the attendees on various topics in relation to this years’ theme. The event will have the patronage of the IHO and the Istituto Idrografico della Marina di Genova. This event aims to raise public awareness and understanding of the critical role hydrography and hydrographers play in achieving a sustainable and harmonious relationship with our oceans.

Congratulations Scholarship Recipients!

THSOA Southeast Chapter Scholarship 2024:
Congratulations to our recipients!

The Southeast chapter of The Hydrographic Society of America is pleased to announce that we have awarded $14,000 in scholarships for the 2023-2024 academic year. We had 15 applicants this year and, although they were all worthy, it just was not possible to awarded everyone a scholarship. I want to thank the hard work of the SE Chapter  education committee in determining who was awarded.

We thank all of our sponsors of our events throughout the year. Without them none of this would be possible.

Dearly Departed

We are devastated by the sudden loss of our colleague and dear friend Don Ventura. With an impressive career, Don was an IHO Category ‘A’ Charge Surveyor, Fellow and Chartered Marine Scientist (Hydrography) with the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST); he was engaged in hydrography since 1984. His experience included 22 years’ service as a hydrographic surveyor in the British Royal Navy, (including 3 years’ exchange with the US Navy at the Naval Oceanographic Office, Stennis Space Center, Mississippi), 3 years employed with SAIC (now Leidos) and 14 years with Fugro. Don was a passionate and dedicated member of the Teledyne Geospatial Product Management Team leading Bathy Lidar Solutions, which greatly benefitted from his tenured experience and professional accreditations. Don’s enthusiasm for the people and technology was evident to everyone who worked with him.
