The Hydrographic Society of America - West Coast Chapter would like to invite you to join us for our October Meeting. This is an informal gathering includes a tour of a survey vessel, a guided tour of the US Army Corps of Engineers San Fransisco Bay Model, interesting/educational hydro-esque presentations followed by socials.

All THSOA members and interested Hydrographers, Oceanographers, Surveyors, Scientists are welcome. Non-members are welcome and encouraged to join.

Presentations/Speakers:

Reducing Ping-to-Chart Time through Onboard Data Processing by Josh Mode, Caris
This presentation will describe a new method of acquiring and processing data autonomously whilst the survey is underway, and the benefits that can be gained from using this method when employed with both autonomous and manned vessels.

Acoustic Imaging Using ROV and 3D Sonar by Kevin Tweed, SF Bay Marine
This presentation will detail the integration of a 3D multibeam sonar (Coda Echoscope) onto an ROV platform for feature and seafloor mapping.

Object Detection from Repeat High Resolution Multibeam Surveys by Tony Ramirez, Triton Imaging
Case study to determine if objects on the seabed can be reliably detected from repeat surveys using a change detection algorithm on high-resolution multibeam data.

Greenland Survey Operations & Satellite Based Vessel Tracking System by Chris Kemp, Terrasond
Presentation will provide an overview of the scientific objectives, highlight the operations and introduce a unique satellite based vessel tracking system that can have applications for remote and local projects.

RPLS & the Hydrographer by Mike Stecher, Solmar Hydro
Solmar Hydro will promote a panel discussion on the possibility of RPLS licensure requirements for hydrographic surveying activities.

Pre-Meeting Event: Take a short cruise on the SF Bay Marine’s 51ft Eaglet. Departs USACE dock at 10:30am for a cruise & lunch onboard.
