    Hydrographic Commercial Manager - Americas (Marine) Houston

    Fugro has recently established the Hydrography Center of Excellence at its Houston campus.  The core technologies and expertise of this new group revolve around bathymetry surveys, such as hydrographic and nautical charting whereby utilizing both vessel and aircraft data collections.  In addition to these existing markets, the group is focused to expand into coastal zone management (CZM), oceanography, environmental and climate sciences, and law of the sea boundary claims.  Moving forward, many of the technologies being developed and assessed by the group involve autonomous vessels and aircraft applications, such as; ASV for maritime and UAV for the airborne. With the growing demand for these services, additional staffing is now required to support the group, and our customers.  Many of the existing and future projects are in support of government coastal, oceanographic and seabed classification requirements.

    The Hydrographic Commercial Manager is responsible for managing all commercial aspects for the Hydrographic Service Line activities. This is a senior position that reports to the Director and this role is responsible for the oversight and success of commercial aspects of the Hydrographic service line (SL). In addition, the role will work closely with the operations team to develop proposals and review the proposed technical approach against costs.

    Job Responsibilities

    ·         Maintain a reasonable understanding of the data types, data acquisition methods, data processing methods, software solutions and hardware solutions developed by and used by the SL.

    ·         Understand business trends and competition within Fugro’s current and potential future markets through research and investigation.

    ·         Have a situation awareness of the company, in terms of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.

    ·         Collaborate with the Director and other management, support the development and maintenance of Fugro’s strategic business plan.

    ·         Develop and manage the execution of business plans that contain specific goals and objectives.

    ·         Create and administer a department budget that covers all business development, sales and marketing functions within the SL.

    ·         Knowledgeable of government contracting policies and procedures in the US and in foreign countries where the Hydrographic SL does business.

    ·         Review contract terms and conditions in the preparation of proposals on formal tender opportunities and negotiate contracts (including terms and conditions), when Fugro is selected for contract award.

    ·         Establish a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system within Fugro and the SL; and manage its use by sales and marketing staff.

    ·         Coordinate SL marketing activities, including, but not limited to, public relations / communications, advertising, brand identity, collateral, statement of qualifications, brochures, websites, shows / events and lead generation.

    ·         Manage the SL sales activities, including, but not limited to, responding to Requests for Information, Requests for Quotations, Requests for Proposals / Tenders, sales visits, customer meetings and attendance at show / events.

    ·         Assist in the development of quotations, proposals and tenders and review all quotations, proposals and tenders before submittal, obtaining the necessary authorizations, as required.

    ·         Organize and track all sales leads and forecast the probability, phasing, and potential revenue/margin of such opportunities to the President on a monthly basis.

    ·         Provide a brief market report on a monthly basis and a more detailed market report to the President on a quarterly basis.

    ·         Attend conferences, workshops, technical meetings and business meetings as required to keep up to date on changes in the industry / market and to develop business for Fugro.

    ·         Work closely with commercial managers or sales and marketing staff in other Fugro operating companies to develop business opportunities for both parties in their region.

    ·         Travel both domestically and internationally to meet with existing and/or new customers and attend conferences, workshops and / or business meetings.

    ·         Keep detailed records and logs regarding performance of the above responsibilities.

     

    Job Requirements

    ·         Authorized to work in the United States without restrictions.

    ·         Driver's license with acceptable motor vehicle record is required.

    ·         Master’s Degree in Business Administration, preferably in a Technology program.

    ·         10 years of related industry experience or equivalent combination of education and experience, Hydrography background is a plus.

    ·         5 years’ experience in a business development role for a professional geospatial services (survey) company is required.

    ·         Strong management background in some or all the following; geomatics, GEOINT, engineering, surveying, mapping, multibeam, Lidar, survey equipment integration, GPS, GNSS, tides, remote sensing and maritime cartography. 

    ·         ACSM Certified Hydrographer or CAT-A Hydrographer credentials are desired, but not required.

    ·         Proficiency of general productivity software, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access; Internet software, E-mail; Windows XP and Vista operating systems.

    ·         Familiarity of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software is required.

    ·         Proficiency of Project Management software, such as MS Project is required.

    ·         Must be eligible to obtain international travel documents and passport.

    Job Summary
     
    Serves as Hydrographic Instrumentation Specialist within the Hydrographic Science Research Center at The University of Southern Mississippi’s School of Ocean Science and Engineering.  As part of a multidisciplinary research team, provides technical expertise and skill to accomplish research objectives while maintaining equipment, vessels, and facilities in a high state of readiness.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities  

    1. Conducts pre-cruise logistics operations and prepares survey equipment for use.

    2. Trains students and faculty on equipment and vessel operations.

    3. Manages hydrographic data and maintains maintenance logs for assigned equipment.

    4. Manages, operates, and performs maintenance on survey equipment, such as:
         Autonomous Surface Vehicles (ASV) and associated components
         Autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV) and gliders
         Multibeam and singlebeam echosounders
         Motion compensation systems
         Data acquisition systems
         Global positioning systems (GNSS) and acoustic positioning systems
         CTD and sound velocity sensors

    5. Performs other duties as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications 

    Bachelor’s degree and/or related experience in operation, maintenance repair, and integration of hydrographic equipment.  Related experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Expert Marine electronics skill, including shipboard integration and troubleshooting/repair to the component level

    Qualifications:

    • Related hydrographic experience or a degree in a geomatics related field (hydrography, surveying, or engineering)
    • Candidate must have a working knowledge of hydrographic data acquisition systems and software primarily including Singlebeam Sonars and GNSS navigation systems. Working knowledge and experience with Multibeam Sonars and Side Scan Sonars a plus. Software packages which will be used are HYPACK/DREDGEPACK.
    • Knowledge of AutoCAD or GIS strongly encouraged.

    JOB DESCRIPTION – Party Chief

    Position Description:

    JOA Surveys, LLC, a small business based in Anchorage, Alaska, specializing in measurement of tides and water levels, vertical datums and geodetic networks, is currently seeking a Party Chief for tides and GNSS surveys.

    Position Duration:

    Full time employment (minimum of 40 hours/week) April to November with the possibility of year round employment depending on need and performance.

    Position Description:

    JOA has a 10 year term contract to perform Environmental Field Services to the NOAA Center for Oceanographic Operational Products and Services (tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov) and is also a subcontractor on term contracts for the US Army Corps of Engineers, the US Geological Survey and the NOAA Office of Coastal Management.  Primary services provided are tide measurements throughout the coastal US including remote Alaska and territories.  JOA is looking for a Party Chief with experience installing water level monitoring equipment, geodetic leveling and conducting static GNSS survey campaigns for hydrographic, shoreline and topographic mapping projects.  Tasks will include, but are not limited to:

    ·       Responsible charge for a 2-3 person field crew

    ·       Recon, installation and maintenance of tide stations

    ·       Deploying oceanographic equipment at sea

    ·       2nd Order Class I digital leveling

    ·       Static GNSS observations

    Additional tasks the Party Chief may perform are ground control and check point surveys for aerial mapping projects, GNSS data processing, tide station reporting and equipment testing. This position would be based at the JOA office in Anchorage, Alaska and will require travel throughout Alaska, the US and its territories.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    A Bachelor’s of Science in surveying or related field with a minimum of five years field experience, fluency in MS Excel, good communication skills, and current driver’s license required.  Must be able to obtain US Passport.  Experience with SCUBA or diving operations, NGS software (OPUS, Windesc, Translev), and scientific programming languages (Matlab, Python, R, etc) is preferred.

    Pay will be hourly and based on experience.

    Hydrographic Survey Specialist, Applied Technology Services – San Ramon

     

    Department Overview

    PG&E’s Applied Technologies Services (ATS) Materials & Bathymetry Support Services unit provides a range of services, including bathymetric surveys inshore and near shores of lakes and water ways throughout service territory in California.

    Facility description: ATS has a several laboratories Chemistry, Metallurgical, Welding, Non-destructive testing facilities, Electrical testing (failure testing and smart grid), Calibration laboratory and Performance testing.  The bathymetric equipment includes multibeam echo sounders, single beam bottom sonar, side scan sonar, sub- bottom profiler, GPS survey, utility locating equipment and several boats of various sizes.

    Position Summary

    A successful candidate will have leadership skills and some supervisory experience. You will plan and direct bathymetric survey projects both major/minor in size as well as administer outside contract work.  You should have 3+ years hydrographic surveying experience; with an emphasis on Multibeam Echo Sounder and GPS survey techniques, and experience with data collection and processing software (e.g., HYPACK, CARIS, PDS, QINSY). Strong oral and written communication skills with a customer focus and a can do attitude are required.  The candidate will have a BS degree in related field, (e.g. Hydrographic Science, Surveying, Oceanography, or Engineering).  Work experience in the gas pipeline or power generation industries a plus. Travel requirement: up to 50% of the time, throughout the PG&E territory.

    Responsibilities

    • Safety: Demonstrate safe working practices at all times. Advocate focus on customer, general public and employee safety in all work practices.
    • Lead the Bathymetric survey team to improve safety and reliability for PG&E. 
    • Client Management: Consulting experience is a plus, excellent communication skills (oral and written) are essential. Successful candidates should work well with others and have a client focus. Job requires developing and promoting strong client relationships, having a can do attitude and being sensitive to client issues.
    • Job Management:  Plan and direct bathymetric survey projects and administer outside contract work effectively. Experience with job development - including scope definition, schedule and cost estimates are crucial.

    The interns will conduct a review of hydrographic surveys and bathymetric grids in support of populating the National Bathymetric Source (NBS) for NOAA's Office of Coast Survey. Data from the NBS will in turn be used to rescheme NOAA's nautical charts. The interns will work with PHB's product team lead to review and edit archived hydrographic surveys in high priority areas. These data will be curated and repackaged for ingest into the NBS and re-published for public dissemination at NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). Interns will use commercial off the shelf Geographic Information System (GIS) software as well as NOAA-developed quality control tools to complete their work.

    • Multibeam bathymetry data collection and processing
    • Conducting Single-beam and/or multibeam hydrographic surveys
    • Sidescan sonar and subbottom profiling data collection

     

    Desired Training and Certifications:    

    • OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations & Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification (current)
    • STCW Safety training for at sea emergencies. (Fire, First-Aid, survival at seal)
    • First-Aid (First Responder)
    • Demonstrated competence in Microsoft Office and experience with hydrographic and geophysical survey and charting software packages, including HyPack/HySweep, QINSy/Qimera, CARIS, Reigl RiSCAN, POSPac, ESRI ArcGIS and AutoCAD Civil 3D, BlueView

     

    Programming skills a plus:

    • Must have strong analytical and communication skills and be able to work both independently and on as part of a team
    • Experience towing boats and trailers and working on small boats and large vessels required
    • Willingness to travel for domestic and foreign work assignments, 35% of the year, is required
    • Willingness and ability to work offshore for weeks or a month or more at a time is required
    • Some physical requirements apply (lifting 50 lbs.)

    DEA’s Marine Services division is currently searching for an IT Manager to work in our Vancouver, WA office.  The Marine Services division is a recognized industry leader in accurate, high-precision hydrographic and geophysical surveys for nautical, environmental, engineering, and scientific applications.  The IT Manager role will purchase and maintain software and hardware, support large project deliveries, manage data and data transfers, and be a liaison to the corporate IT group.                 Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

    ·       Support remote employees, remote offices, varied project sites which may include moving vessels, and shipboard computers

    ·       Management and administration of large dynamic data sets

    ·       Management and administration of disparate network systems and communications

    ·       Advanced knowledge of network servers and equipment, data backups, software maintenance, break-fix, computer builds, and desktop support

    ·       Analyzes and resolves problems related to network hardware, software and communication links

    ·       Oversee meeting conferencing software and setup

    ·       Manage the IT budget for the Marine Services division

    ·       Limited travel

    ·       On Call for emergencies

    Basic Qualifications:

    ·       10 years’ experience in Windows Enterprise management or 5 years of experience and a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems or related degree

    ·       Experience with management of:

    o   Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy

    o   Microsoft Windows Server operating systems

    o   Microsoft Windows 7 and 10 Workstations

    o   Enterprise storage appliances

    o   Enterprise backup system software

    o   Firewalls and routers

    o   Managing vendor relationships and agreements

    o   Computer building

    o   Telephany and Audio/video management

    ·       Experience supporting remote users and devices

    ·       Experience managing yearly internal budgets
